(NASHVILLE, Tenn.) Sept. 30, 2013-Renowned singer-songwriter/worship leader Jon Bauer is once again the most-nominated artist of this year's Gospel Music Association Canada Covenant Awards, recently announced during a press conference at CTS Television Studios in Burlington, Ontario. Among Bauer's 2013 nominations are Artist of the Year, Male Vocalist of the Year, and a nod in the category of Roots/Folk Album of the Year for his newest project, Roots of Worship (7/16/13), which he debuted live on a two-week tour to Germany earlier this month.
"I am honoured to have my music recognized by GMA Canada alongside many other gifted artists," says Bauer. "I am continually humbled to be able to do what I do on an international level--much less be recognized for it--all the while remembering that this life and our purpose is not found in the country we live in, the language we speak, or music we sing….it is when our hearts are connected to Jesus that matters, and in that our roots grow deep."
A favorite in his native Canada and with audiences across the globe, Bauer led the pack with seven nominations for The 35th Annual Covenant Awards. Besides those previously mentioned, Bauer received recognition for Modern Worship Song of the Year ("Our God"), Children's Song of the Year ("Come and Save Us"), Recorded Song of the Year ("Fall Over Me"), and Country/Bluegrass Song of the Year ("Blessed Be the Name/Power in the Blood" feat. High Valley).
"Jon Bauer is one of the most talented artists I've ever had the privilege to work with," says Mark Giles, Christian editor at All Access, who has played an instrumental role in Bauer's career. "His gifting is obvious, but what impresses me the most is his commitment to ministry. For Jon, it's not about promotion of self, it's about service to others. He causes others to want to know more about the God that's chasing after him."
Leroy Harder, Compassion Canada artist and events manager, agrees, "We are thrilled to see GMA Canada recognize Jon Bauer, one of our most effective, passionate artists with a heart for his music and the ministry of Compassion. His passion for the kingdom is contagious, and it's exciting to be a part of what Jon is doing!"
In addition to Roots/Folk Album of the Year, nominated songs "Our God" and "Blessed Be the Name/Power in the Blood" are both from Roots of Worship, which released only two months ago and is already being touted as "...imminently honest and approachable..." (soul-audio.com) and "...one of my favorite folk/acoustic-inspired worship albums of the year so far" (indievisionmusic.com).
Produced by GMA Dove Award-winning Producer of the Year Rusty Varenkamp (Building 429, Sanctus Real, Tenth Avenue North), Roots of Worship comprises 10 familiar worship songs, six which currently grace Christian Copyright Licensing International's (CCLI) Top 25, but with original arrangements sonically reminiscent of artists like Mumford & Sons, Lumineers, and The Civil Wars.
Fans throughout Germany received the album enthusiastically, as Bauer debuted music from Roots of Worship on his fifth German tour, which wrapped Sept. 15. The tour comprised 12 concerts in 10 cities, including Berlin, Dresden, Frankfurt, Munster, and Mainz.
Roots of Worship is available via iTunes, Amazon.com and at www.jonbauermusic.com. Sample a stream of the CD online at http://snd.sc/11IJSle. Also, visit www.jonbauermusic.com for an updated tour itinerary.
